She often blames two things for her forays into speculative fiction—Syfy (when it was SciFi) channel Sundays with her dad and The Island of Dr. Moreau by HG Wells. She graduated in 2008 from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in English and is still chasing the dream of being super rich and famous, mostly so she can sit around in her PJs all day and write stories. When not being a slave to the people in her head, she’s a slave to two adorable dogs. Austin Garten is a gourmet TV reality star as he host a popular food show Back Roads Eats. He has become bored with typical barbeque and standard American cuisine. When his travelling RV strands him and his fellow friends outside small town Casper, Wyoming they are told about a restaurant called Kai a Maori restaurant that has few customers.
Ember owns and runs this small place where her customers are people she never sees again as they drive through the area. She longs to see her sisters again, her oldest who disappeared and presume to be dead while her youngest left and barely keeps in contact.
Austin is not only attracted by the food but by Ember herself as they spend time together while he waits for the RV to be fix. He decides that she needs to be on her show and that she needs more people to know about her place as they offer samples of her New Zealand cuisine to the locals and a reopening of her restaurant to attract them.
As The Solstice approaches, Ember knows her secret will come out but will Austin be able to handle it or will it tear them apart? Two people that are meant to be together but is love ever enough?
